Do you pay VAT on the prices shown?
No VAT is chargeable if you have a chronic illness that affects your mobility and you need a scooter or
wheelchair to get about. All we require from you is a signature on a form declaring your mobility problem and
then you are eligible for full VAT relief under the Value Added Tax Act 1983.
Mobility problems such as arthritis qualify for VAT exemption. The prices we show is the actual amount you will pay and do
not include VAT.
Are 3-wheelers safe?
Yes, they are, providing you use common sense when driving the scooter. 3-wheelers also have certain advantages:
Longer legroom - important for arthritic limbs.
Better manoeuvrability.
Easier to transport
Less expensive.
How far do they go?
This varies depending on terrain, battery size and weight of driver. A 20-mile range is fairly normal but ranges can vary from 10 to 35 miles on different scooters.
Do the batteries need topping up?
No. Today all modern scooters use sealed lead acid or gel filled batteries which are maintenance free and aircraft transportable.
How often do you charge up the batteries?
The easy answer is every time you use the scooter. However, the batteries will last longer if not charged until they have discharged by 25% to 50% PROVIDING they are not left in a discharged state for a long time.
All chargers are automatic - you cannot overcharge.
How long do batteries last?
On average 2-3 years.
Servicing?
Most scooters do not need much maintenance. However, an annual check over will keep your scooter in good order.
Are the wheels puncture proof?
No, most scooters come with pneumatic tyres for a better ride. Most wheels have split rims so punctures are easy to repair. If you are concerned then solid tyres can be fitted. Today's 'solids' do give an excellent ride and never puncture. A set of four is about the same cost of a set of replacement tyres and tubes. We do not recommend the liquid puncture proofing applications.
How do scooters stop?
The motor itself stops the scooter when the throttle is released. Then a magnetic park brake stops the scooter from rolling. Road scooters also have emergency hand brakes.
What do you need to get started?
No Licence, no tax, test or insurance is required to drive a scooter on a footpath or highway.
How do they work then?
Scooters are powered by modern day leisure batteries that are completely sealed and pose no hazard to yourself.
